Description

''The Gallente, libertarians by instinct and prone to intervention, had become aware of the plight of the Minmatar and were appalled by it.''
Eve Universe

As the news of the enslaved Minmatar swept through the Federation, one of the first people to start plotting for the freeing of Minmatar slaves was a Gallente Officer called Alailon Carmette. He, thinking that the Federation would not intervene, decided to desert the Federation Navy and convinced many Gallentean ship crews to do the same and join him in his cause. And thus, Carmette's Fighters were born.

Immediately after their desertion, they went out on their first excursion into Amarrian territory, where they successfully raided an Amarrian slave camp, freeing over 200 Minmatar slaves in the ensuing battle. They quickly fled back to low security Gallente space, where they released the freed slaves on the planet Lermireve IV. The Minmatar, now free of their Amarrian overlords, were given two options: To be led to the nearest Gallente settlement, where they could begin their free lives in the Federation. Or to join Carmette's Fighters, and help crew their ships.

As time went on, Carmette's Fighters kept raiding Amarrian slave camps and ambushing slave transports. Gradually, hundreds of freed Minmatar slaves started flooding into the Federation. At the same time, the Gallente authorities became increasingly aware of these deserters and started to hunt them down.
Carmette's Fighters slowly became a predominantly Minmatar-controlled organisation, as their main source of manpower came from freed Minmatar slaves who were quickly trained (in secret) to become competent crew members, and the original Gallentean deserters slowly started getting either killed off during raids on the Amarrians or caught and arrested by the Gallente authorities. Even Alailon Carmette himself eventually got arrested, and whatever happpened to him has been forgotten by the public.
Despite the careful and calculated planning of the group, Carmette's Fighters did lose a few ships, and they weren't easy to replace. They did however, on a few occasions, take on a small number of Gallentean deserters and their ships, as well as a couple of pirate vessels and even an Amarrian Punisher Frigate, whose crew defected to them during one of their raids on a slave transport.

After the success of The Great Rebellion, which they surprisingly did not participate in, Carmette's Fighters fell into a state of decline. The members of the group were offered a pardon by the Gallente Federation, on the condition that they quit conducting raids on Amarrian territory. They took the pardon, and most members left the organisation for a life in either the Federation or Minmatar Republic, often joining their navies. The group shrank rather quickly, as their main purpose of freeing Minmatar slaves had (in their eyes) been fulfilled. The remaining few members set up their base at Caslemon, where they started hunting down pirates.

The group almost went extinct in recent times, but was recently revived by Ranvian Hariere, an Intaki capsuleer with Brutor ancestry, who took up the reins of Carmette's Fighters and turned it into a Capsuleer Corporation.
Nowadays, Carmette's Fighters mainly hunt down pirates belonging to the major pirate factions, especially the Serpentis who plauge Gallente space. They do not typically attack capsuleers, and can be a bit of a blessing for those mining in pirate-affected asteroid belts, as Carmette's Fightets often hunt down the pirates present there. They still tend to avoid pirate capsuleers, unless they have the numbers on their side.
